Total Cost of Upgrade for AlphaServer OpenVMS Environments
Posted on August 11, 2012
TechWise Research® published an update to a 2010 report entitled "Total Cost of Upgrading HP OpenVMS Environments to HP Integrity i2 Server Blades." Since publishing the 2010 report, HP has enhanced OpenVMS V8.4 and introduced the Integrity rx2800 i2 server. This new report updates the 2010 paper with current information. It provides a detailed Total Cost of Upgrade™ or TCU™ analysis for upgrading OpenVMS AlphaServers to Integrity i2 servers running OpenVMS V8.4. It quantifies the costs and benefits from the upgrade and provides detailed cash flow analyses for two upgrade and two consolidation scenarios. There continues to be very compelling reasons to upgrade or consolidate. In all four scenarios the payback period is less than one year. (August 2012).

New Paper Helps Companies Avoid Server Downtime
Posted on April 05, 2010
TechWise Research's latest report is entitled: VAX and Alpha in 2010: Real Challenges, Solid Solutions. This paper provides a detailed description and benefit analysis of hidden vulnerabilities and new proactive maintenance options for HP VAX and Alpha systems. For a variety of business and technical reasons, over 200,000 of these heritage servers are still in production around the world. Many of these systems are used for business critical applications where the cost per hour of downtime is measured in tens of thousands of dollars. TechWise describes small investments companies can take to substantially reduce the risk of downtime and extend the useful life of these systems. For most companies, these investments are "no brainers" when compared to the risk of doing nothing (March 2010).
